GARY S. MORIARTY, AIA, NCARB
Architect, Planner, Developer, Photographer
Thanks for stopping by my website!
When I was a 12-year-old wee lad in Dubuque, Iowa, my parents decided to move to a new part of town, buy a lot and build a new home for our family of three trouble-making boys and our older sister, who never got into trouble. Since I was too young to get a job, I spent several summers watching other new homes being built. I soon came to love the sounds, smells and activity on construction sites. I enjoyed the smell of freshly poured concrete and freshly sawn lumber. I was hooked. I knew I wanted to be in this industry, although I was not sure in what capacity. As you will see, I decided to pursue a career in architecture.
Education
1977-1979
Master of Architecture
Iowa State University
While pursuing this degree, I studied how the buildings and environments we design impact the day-to-day lives of the users, especially the elderly and disabled. My thesis was focused on what we can learn from conducting post-occupancy evaluations and how to apply this knowledge on future designs.
1971-1975
Bachelor of Arts, Architecture
Iowa State University
While pursuing this degree, I quickly learned that architecture was about more than bricks, mortar, schedules and budgets. Our work would have the ability to have a profound impact on the users, either positively or negatively. After forty years, I still believe this.
